Coddington Court School was opened in early 2001, and specialises in provision for up to 40 young people with a diagnosis of autism. The young people are aged between 11 and 19, and come from all parts of the United Kingdom . Set in a stunning rural location in Herefordshire it is within easy reach of Worcester, Malvern and Ledbury and close to good road, motorway and rail connections. The school is registered with OFSTED, and internal monitoring processes are in place. Placements may be between 38 and 50 weeks a year, or day placements for more local young people.

The ethos of the school is to support the development of each young person through the provision of a high quality educational and developmental environment through the appropriate levels of support.

“Students make the strongest progress in improving their behaviour and developing their social, independence and communication skills.” – Ofsted January 2008

The original and current site of four acres of grounds comprises of residential buildings, classrooms, therapy and play areas, and swimming pool. The living environments are functional, comfortable and personalised to meet individual needs. The perimeter of the site is a physical boundary of mixed shrubs, hedgerows and fencing. In late 2006 the adjacent field of around 10 acres was purchased to extend the recreational and educational facilities, to include an area for horticulture, playing fields, bicycle track, an ecologically friendly wetlands area , and new car park.

There is a variety of leisure and play areas to encourage and stimulate including climbing frames, swings, the swimming pool and a courtyard area suitable for using bikes and roller blades safely.

“The school gives good attention to students’ health and well-being. They are encouraged to eat healthily and participate in a suitable range of on-site sporting and leisure activities” - Ofsted January 2008

The four residential homes, can each provide for up to 9 places for young people. Each building has individual bedrooms with a range of baths and showers and toilet facilities. There is a living area, dining room, laundry and kitchen facilities in each residential home. The young people’s bedrooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe, bedside chest, and soft furnishings. Young people can personalise the room to individual choice. Individual diets are provided for.

There are 3 main school buildings designed or adapted to provide age appropriate resources and accommodation conducive to the teaching of young people with autism. Each school building has a sensory room and areas where young people can relax as well as engage in their educational activities. A new IT and communication project has been sponsored by Microsoft, enabling the young people to access the internet safely and keep contact with their families. In addition the young people are encouraged and supported to access community activities and amenities to support their individual interests.
